Join us for a fun and hands-on urban gardening workshop! Learn how you can help pollinators and make your space greener, even if you don’t have a yard. This workshop is perfect for anyone who wants to learn about urban gardening and expanding greenspace in a fun and budget-friendly way.

Workshop highlights

  • Create upcycled planters: Use old plastic materials to make your own planters. We’ll provide everything you need.
  • Plant perennials: Plant one of our drought-tolerant and pollinator-friendly perennials, perfect for a city garden.
  • Expert advice: Hear from Nancy Louwman of the 1000 Islands Master Gardeners. Discover expert tips on urban gardening, learn how to care for pollinator plants, and explore creative ways to use containers for all your planting needs.

Spaces are limited! Register early to secure your spot.

We’ll provide plants, potting soil, and upcycled plastic containers, but feel free to bring your own planter. Upcycled planters should be no larger than a coffee can.

Plants will include drought-tolerant and pollinator-friendly perennials such as hostas, lilies, lavender, catmint, and bee balms.

The workshop will take place outside in the Water Conservation Garden. Attendees will be notified of any weather-related updates using the email address provided during registration.

Special presentation

Nancy Louwman from the 1000 Islands Master Gardeners will give a presentation on rethinking the urban landscape with container gardening. Learn to choose the correct size and type of container, the best soil mix for different planting purposes, and best management practices. Nancy will also cover top annuals and native plants for success.

Join our conservation team after the presentation for a planting tutorial. Each participant can take home an upcycled DIY planter containing one of our hardy, drought-tolerant perennials. You’ll also have the opportunity to decorate your planter in a fun, beginner-friendly activity!
