Taking action on climate change
Utilities Kingston is proud to share our Climate Action Leadership Plan (CALP), a clear strategy that supports the City of Kingston's goal to become carbon neutral by 2040. As your local multi-utility provider, we're helping address climate change and the transition to a low-carbon economy. Our focus is to continue delivering safe, reliable, and affordable utility services while adapting to new challenges.
Four focus areas
The plan is built around four strategic pillars:
-
Pillar 1 - Reducing Operational Greenhouse Gas Emissions: Lowering emissions through energy efficiency, conservation, renewable energy, and process improvements.
-
Pillar 2 - Supporting Climate Action: Empowering customers through education, incentives, and programs that encourage sustainable choices.
-
Pillar 3 - Exploring Low-Carbon Business Ventures: Pursuing innovative opportunities with both economic and environmental benefits that align with Utilities Kingston’s role in the energy transition.
-
Pillar 4 - Climate-Informed Planning: Embedding climate resilience into infrastructure and strategic decision-making.
Developed in a time of change, the CALP remains flexible as data and priorities evolve. It offers a practical framework to move from planning to action by identifying opportunities that meet customer needs, support Utilities Kingston’s objectives, and align with the City’s climate goals. The plan helps guide smart investments, strengthen customer engagement, and track progress over time — all while balancing climate ambition with our commitment to safe, reliable, and affordable service.
