Celebrating Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater Operator Appreciation Day
On October 23, we join the Ontario Municipal Water Association in celebrating Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater (W3) Operator Appreciation Day — a province-wide initiative recognizing the skilled professionals who protect public health, support our environment, and safeguard one of our most precious natural resources: water.
At Utilities Kingston, we’re proud of our W3 operators who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the quality of life in our community. From operating and maintaining treatment facilities and underground systems, to responding to emergencies, inspecting new installations, supporting community programs, and meeting rigorous regulatory standards, their expertise and commitment ensure that safe, reliable water is available at the tap, and that our natural environment is protected.
Earlier this month, on October 7, Mayor Bryan Paterson formally recognized the contributions of Kingston’s water, wastewater, and stormwater operators. This is one of the first initiatives to help raise awareness in our community about the essential role these professionals play every day.
Operator Appreciation Day is a chance to celebrate the people who keep our community running safely and sustainably,” says Heather Roberts, Director of Water and Wastewater at Utilities Kingston. “Their work often happens out of sight, but its impact is felt by every person who drinks or uses safe municipal drinking water and enjoys the clean environments in our community."
We’re incredibly proud of our operators and the essential work they do to keep Kingston’s water, wastewater, and stormwater systems operating safely and efficiently. We encourage everyone in our community to take a moment this month to thank an operator for their dedication and care in keeping our systems strong and our community safe.
