City Council approves 2025 and 2026 utility budgets

Earlier this year, City Council approved budgets for water, wastewater, natural gas, and appliance rentals to ensure your utility services remain safe, reliable, and affordable. These budgets will support ongoing operations, infrastructure maintenance, and necessary system improvements.

What this means for you

Rate adjustments are necessary to address rising operational costs and maintain the quality of your services. These updates will help us manage day-to-day operations and ensure we continue providing reliable services to meet your needs. The new rates will take effect on March 1, 2025.

Water and wastewater

For 2025 and 2026, the rate changes will be 4.8% each year for water and wastewater.

For residential customers using 200 m³ annually, the combined impact of these increases will be $62 per year in 2025, and $65 per year in 2026.

Natural Gas

The gas distribution charges will increase by 7.0% on March 1, followed by an additional 3.0% increase on January 1, 2026.

For a typical residential customer using 2,300 m³ of gas per year, the bill impact of this rate adjustment would be $29.62.

Appliance rentals

What else is changing?

Some service charges are being updated to better reflect actual costs. These include fees for services outside of regular utility billing, such as:

  •          Turning service on or off at a customer’s request
  •          Testing meters when customers question their accuracy
  •          Locating underground utility services beyond the standard free requests
  •          Bulk water usage and wastewater disposal charges
