February is Black Histories and Futures Month

Every February, people across Canada come together to celebrate Black History Month, honouring the lasting contributions of Black people and communities. It’s a time to reflect on the rich history and ongoing impact of Black Canadians and to celebrate their leadership - past, present, and future.
The theme for Black History Month 2025 is "Black Legacy and Leadership: Celebrating Canadian History and Uplifting Future Generations." This theme highlights the diversity of Black Canadians, honours their leadership, and celebrates the profound legacy they’ve built for future generations. It underscores that Black Canadians, with over 400 years of presence on these Indigenous lands, have a rightful place in our nation’s history - one that deserves both recognition and celebration.
February also marks Black Histories & Futures Month, a time to reflect on the significant contributions of the Black community and to promote a more equitable future. This observance builds on the tradition of Black History Month, expanding its focus to celebrate not only the historical achievements of Black Canadians but also the opportunities and leadership shaping the future.
It’s a time for all of us to reflect on the history of Black communities and imagine a brighter future by supporting Black voices and uplifting their communities.
