If you’ve had a Utilities Kingston gas inspection over the last three years, including if you're one of the 5,000 customers who had a gas meter replaced, you may receive a phone call to schedule a follow-up inspection.

Background

As determined by Measurement Canada, and in accordance with the Electricity and Gas Inspection Act, every year we send a sample number of gas meters to verify accuracy and that the meters conform to legal requirements. This requires gas meters to be changed and natural gas appliances to be inspected.

In follow-up to this initiative, the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) is conducting an audit of 50 customer premises that recently had their gas meter changed. The audit is mandatory under the Electricity and Gas Inspection Act.

Appointments

If you’re one of the 50 commercial or residential gas customers randomly selected, Utilities Kingston will phone you to arrange an appointment. Appointments will take place Monday to Friday, between 8:30 AM and 3:30 PM and be approximately one hour in duration. An adult must be present for the appointment.

A TSSA Inspector, accompanied by a certified Utilities Kingston gas technician, will attend the premise to conduct the inspection of gas meters and piping, as well as customer-owned natural gas appliances. Both TSSA and Utilities Kingston representatives carry identification and you are encouraged to ask to see it.

If your gas appliances or piping are malfunctioning, our technician will provide information on what to do next. As per our terms of service, we’re not responsible for the cost to repair this equipment.
