Honouring National Indigenous History Month together

June is National Indigenous History Month, a time to come together and recognize the deep history, vibrant cultures, and ongoing contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples.
This month is about celebrating stories, achievements, and traditions that have shaped – and continue to shape – this country in meaningful ways. It’s also a time to listen, reflect, and connect with the voices and experiences of Indigenous Peoples.
One meaningful way to engage this month is by joining the Kingston Native Centre and Language Nest’s celebration on June 21, 2025. The event will feature a ceremony, along with performances, workshops, and storytelling. Together, these elements will honour the diverse cultures, traditions, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples. It’s a powerful opportunity to connect with our community and celebrate together. You can find more details about the event on the City of Kingston website.
Here are a few other ways you can get involved:
-
Watching films and shows by Indigenous creators
-
Listening to music and reading books that share Indigenous perspectives
-
Exploring Indigenous history in local areas
-
Learning about the significance of June 21 – National Indigenous Peoples Day
Everyone’s journey looks different, and this month is a chance to connect in a thoughtful, respectful way. We invite you to take part in whatever way feels meaningful to you—and if something resonates, share it with the hashtag #NIHM2025.
