Honouring the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Honouring the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Today, we honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. It is a call to join important conversations and seek education about the truths of Indigenous treaties, First Nation, Inuit and Metis land claims and the residential schools system.

Our employees are participating in Orange Shirt Day, which recognizes the harm the residential school system inflicted on the self-esteem and well being of children, and affirms that every child matters.  We remain open to assist you.

There are many ways we can honour the shared path of reconciliation:

  1.     Learn more about Indigenous peoples, treaties, land claims and the residential schools system.
  2.     Continue to look forward to positive change.
  3.     Find ways to address Indigenous-related myths and misconceptions.
  4.     Avoid perpetuating stereotypes in conversations or observations.
  5.     Encourage others around us to keep reconciliation an ongoing effort.
  6.     Read the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s 94 calls to action.
  7.     Read the 231 calls to action in the Final Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.
  8.     Participate in the public events of Truth and Reconciliation Week.

On September 30, wear orange and listen with open ears and hearts to the stories of survivors and their families, hold space for Indigenous community members and remember that reconciliation is a path we walk together.
