International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia

International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia

Every year on May 17, people around the globe come together to observe the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia - affectionately known as IDAHOBIT. It's a day to stand up against discrimination and to celebrate diversity within our LGBTQIA+ communities.

This year's theme is "The Power of Communities," and it's all about recognizing the strength and resilience that emerge when we stand together in solidarity. From local groups to global communities, when we work together, we can make a real difference and help create a world where everyone feels free to be themselves.

Why May 17?

IDAHOBIT marks an important moment in historyon May 17, 1990, the World Health Organization took homosexuality off its list of mental disorders. It’s a day to celebrate how far we’ve come, and also to reflect on the work that still lies ahead to achieve true equality for everyone.

How can you get involved?

There are many ways to participate in IDAHOBIT and show your support:
  • Show your support: Display rainbow flags, wear inclusive apparel, or update your social media profiles to reflect your allyship.

  • Host an event: Organize a community gathering, workshop, or panel discussion to raise awareness and foster inclusivity.

  • Engage online: Use hashtags like #IDAHOBIT2025 and #ThePowerOfCommunities to join the global conversation.

For more ideas and resources, check out the official IDAHOBIT website: May17.org.

Remember: Every action counts

Whether you're part of the LGBTQIA+ community or an ally, your voice matters. By coming together and supporting one another, we can build a more inclusive and compassionate world. Let's harness the power of our communities to make a lasting impact.

Happy IDAHOBIT 2025! 💖
