Data Privacy Week is January 27-31! This annual campaign raises awareness about data privacy and educates individuals on securing their personal information. This year's theme is "Take Control of Your Data."

Your data gets collected every day from your computer, smartphone, and almost any other device that connects to the internet, like your smartwatch or car. You can't lock down all of your data, but you can take simple steps to manage it and take more control of who it is shared with.   

Let’s Talk Data  

Join the National Cybersecurity Alliance all week for the Talking Data online event, featuring daily conversations about keeping your data private and safe. Here are some sessions you might find interesting:

  1. Take Control of Your Data: Privacy Settings in Your Favorite Apps - Learn how to adjust privacy settings in your favourite apps on Jan. 29. 

  1. Are We Making Progress? Understanding Privacy Laws - Learn about privacy laws and how they can protect your data on Jan. 30.  

  1. Safeguarding Your Kids' Data - Learn how to protect your children's privacy online on Jan 31.

At Utilities Kingston, we take the protection of your personal information seriously. We’re committed to keeping your data accurate, confidential, and secure, in line with privacy laws like PIPEDA and MFIPPA. 

We’ve implemented strict rules to ensure that your personal information - whether it’s your name, address, phone number, financial details, or even your energy usage - is always safeguarded.

How can I protect myself from utility scams?

Be cautious of any unsolicited emails, phone calls, or text messages claiming to be from Utilities Kingston asking for personal information or payment. We will never contact you to request your banking information or credit card details through these channels. 

  • If you get a suspicious call from someone claiming to represent Utilities Kingston, hang up and let us know. Our customer service representatives are available Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at 613-546-1181. 

  • Report any suspicious incidents to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501. They collect information on fraud and work closely with police to tackle these crimes.
