Celebrating Asian Heritage Month

May is Asian Heritage Month!

Asian Heritage Month is an opportunity for us to learn more about the diverse culture and history of Asian communities in Canada and acknowledge the many achievements and contributions of people of Asian origin who, throughout our history, have done so much to make Canada the country we know and love.

Amplifying Asian Canadian Legacy

This year's theme, 'Preserving the Past, Embracing the Future: Amplifying Asian Canadian Legacy,' celebrates our rich heritage while looking forward with hope. Let's celebrate the voices, stories, and achievements in all aspects of our society, including the arts, sports, and social justice.

  • Explore brief biographies highlighting the many valuable contributions made by Canadians of Asian heritage. They reflect historical and cultural milestones that help define the rich and significant history of communities of Asian heritage in Canada.
  • Since the late-1700s, people of Asian origin have made important contributions to Canada’s history and identity. Learn more about significant events in history that continue to shape Canada as we know it today.

Celebrating together

Join us to learn, share, and appreciate the diverse experiences that make Canada special! Explore resources like Kingston Frontenac Public Library’s Asian Heritage Month reading list, attend local events like Saturday Storytime, and enjoy the National Film Board of Canada's free selection of films centred on Asian communities and perspectives.

We are thrilled to celebrate the beauty of diversity as a cornerstone of our values during Asian Heritage Month. Together, let's amplify the voices and experiences of our Asian colleagues, neighbours and friends, and celebrate our rich culture and history.
