Widespread Power Outage in Effect

Widespread Power Outage in Effect

We are aware of a widespread power outage. It is due to loss of power supply from the Hydro One transformer station at Division Street and John Counter Boulevard. The duration is presently unknown.

Control centre operators and electric crews are working to restore power to Kingston Hydro customers as quickly as safely possible. The Kingston Hydro system is designed for redundancy - we redirect power from another transformer station. Intermittent outages are needed to facilitate this and we apologize for the inconvenience.

Update at 4 PM:

We have redirected power to supply electricity east of the Cataraqui River. Further outages are possible as our system isn't in its normal state.

Update at 12:40 PM:

  • Power was restored to Kingston Hydro customers west of the Cataraqui River at 12:07 p.m.
  • Kingston Hydro customers to the area east of the Cataraqui River, including Barriefield and CFB Kingston, should be prepared for an extended outage into the late evening. Visit our web page on power outage precautions.

Update at 11 AM:

  • The area of Barrack St., north to John Counter Blvd., AND Leroy Grant Dr., east to Cataraqui River: power is expected to be restored by 1 PM.
  • Customers to the area east of the Cataraqui River, including Barriefield and CFB Kingston should be prepared for a longer duration outage. Duration is presently unknown - we will provide further updates.
