We’re Updating Water and Wastewater Master Plans

Utilities Kingston is dedicated to the responsible management of infrastructure. That’s why we’re updating the water and wastewater master plans to align with population growth projections.

Why is this important?

It helps us plan upgrades to infrastructure so that we can provide reliable water and wastewater services to our customers for years to come.

  • The water master plan considers future infrastructure needs for supplying and distributing treated water. We’re making sure to satisfy current and projected water demands, while maintaining adequate system pressures for fire protection.
  • The wastewater master plan considers future needs for wastewater collection, conveyance and treatment. We’re addressing existing and future demands on the system, including for sewage and extraneous flows from both separated and combined service areas. We’ll also update our pollution prevention and control plan to ensure environmental protection. This examines the issue of sewage bypasses from the wastewater system.

Utilities Kingston and our partner WSP Canada Inc. will conduct a study in accordance with the requirements of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) process.

We want to ensure anyone interested in this study has the opportunity to get involved and provide input. Information will be shared on our website and social media accounts, and the public will be invited to an information session in the late summer or early fall.

The Notice of Commencement will be published in the Kingston Whig Standard on June 23 & 30, 2015. Visit the Water Master Plan and Wastewater Master Plan web pages to learn more and stay up-to-date.
