Utilities Kingston Creates Platform to Keep Nesting Ospreys Safe

Utilities Kingston electric crews have built an osprey nesting platform on the grounds of the Ravensview Wastewater Treatment Facility, ensuring the reliability of the facility and protecting the safety of workers and the birds themselves. A pair of osprey moved onto it the same day it was erected.

The platform was built after osprey attempted to nest atop the electrical service line, causing a power outage at the facility on Highway #2 East. The platform encourages the osprey to nest safely away from the 44,000 Volt service line.

In 2012, electric crews erected a dedicated pole and platform for osprey at Queenston Heights Crescent, also in the east end of the city. The osprey raised their young there that summer.
