Saturday, April 28 is the National Day of Mourning

This day is dedicated to remembering those who have lost their lives, or suffered injury or illness due to a work-related tragedy. We also take time to recognize the many families and friends who have been deeply affected.

One death is too many. However, in the past year alone, six workers from just our region did not go home to their families. Let’s remember:

  • Four Hydro One workers, who died in December 2017, after a helicopter crashed.
  • A 55-year-old Quinte West man, who died March 2018 when the wall of a trench collapsed on a residential construction site.
  • A 47-year-old Kingston man, who fell 30 feet and succumbed to his injuries in August 2017.

This is why the staff and management of Utilities Kingston continue to work as hard as we can to ensure that everyone goes home safe at the end of the day.

Let’s use the National Day of Mourning as a reminder of our pledge towards a safe and inclusive workplace. At Utilities Kingston, we will observe this day on Friday, April 27.
