Planned maintenance on natural gas line on July 23

We will perform a planned bypass and some minor maintenance on the natural gas line located at City Gate, 2384 Perth Rd, on July 23, 2024. The work will start at approximately 5:30 a.m. and is expected to last around 8 hours. This bypass is necessary for the safe replacement of the main safety relief valve as part of the 5-year routine inspection required by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA).

What to expect:

  • The resident's natural gas service will not be interrupted during the bypass and maintenance.

  • For about 30 minutes during the purging process, residents might smell natural gas and see a visible flame from the purge burner at the gate station. This is a standard safety procedure to remove gas buildup in the line before work begins. There is no danger to the public.

  • Minimal residential impact is expected. The primary impact will be the temporary odour and visual flame from the purging process.

  • Only qualified Utilities Kingston operations staff will perform the bypass and maintenance.

Enbridge, the local gas supplier in the area, along with Kingston Fire & Rescue (KFR), has been informed about the planned work.

Residents must follow normal procedures for any concerns around natural gas throughout the bypass.
