Natural Gas Rates Change May 1

Natural Gas Rates Change May 1

Your natural gas bill is made up of several parts including for the natural gas commodity, transportation, delivery and storage. Utilities Kingston has reviewed the rates for the natural gas commodity, transportation and storage effective May 1, 2014.

Effective on this date, the commodity price for natural gas will increase 15 per cent or $0.0253 per cubic metre to $0.1925 per cubic metre.

The unusually cold winter resulted in a high demand for natural gas, which increased the commodity price. The overall effect of this change will increase a typical residential bill (3,100 cubic metres annually) by an estimated $78 annually or six per cent of the total natural gas bill. Utilities Kingston does not profit from the amounts charged for gas commodity, transportation and storage—these are pass-through charges.

The price increase is in line with increases implemented by the other major gas utilities in Ontario. Utilities Kingston continues to use responsible management practices to procure natural gas for use by its customers.

There will be no adjustment to the Transportation & Storage rate and it will remain at $0.0953 per cubic metre.

Utilities Kingston reviews its natural gas commodity, storage and transportation rates quarterly on February 1, May 1, August 1 and November 1. The next quarterly review will be for August 1, 2014 implementation.
