Natural Gas Rate Change Effective January 1, 2013

Effective January 1, 2013, there will be a revenue neutral type adjustment to the fixed and variable Local Distribution Costs gas rate components.

The estimated annualized bill impact of this change to Local Distribution Costs for a typical residential customer using 3100 m3 per year is $Nil from 2012 to 2013.

The summary of rate adjustments to gas Local Distribution Costs is as follows:
  • The Residential monthly fixed charge component will increase by $2.37 to $21.00 per month, and
  • The variable Local Distribution charge component Block #1 (1st 1500 m3) will decrease by -$0.0092 per cubic metre to $0.0795 per cubic metre for all gas customers, and
  • The variable Local Distribution charge component Block #2 (Next 3500 m3) will increase by $0.0018 per cubic metre to $0.0498 per cubic metre for all gas customers.

Background on Local Distribution Costs

Local distribution charges relate to the cost for us to move the gas locally from the city boundary to your home’s gas appliances. All Local Distribution Costs rate components remained unchanged over the period of May 1, 2010 to December 31, 2012.
