Know What to Do in the Event of a Power Outage

Freezing rain can bring down tree branches and power lines. Utilities Kingston offers some tips and precautions on what to do in the event of a power emergency. Please familiarize yourself with this information.

Downed trees and power lines

If you see a downed power line or tree branch that has fallen on a power line, always assume it's energized and dangerous. Stay away and report it immediately by calling 613-546-1181. This line is answered 24 hours per day, seven days a week.

Notify us of power outages

If you live in the Kingston Hydro service area (Central Kingston, Canadian Forces Base Kingston and parts of Barriefield Village) and are experiencing a power outage, please call us, 24 hours per day, at 613-546-1181 and follow these instructions:

  1. Please listen to the list of known outages.
  2. If your outage is listed, please be assured we are working as quickly as possible to resolve the issue and hang up.
  3. If your outage is not listed, please follow the instructions to report the outage.

If your neighbours have power but you don't, visually check your meter and electrical service. If you're concerned, call 613-546-1181.

Residents in the west and east areas of Kingston can call Hydro One’s Storm Center at 1-800-434-1235.
