Kingston Hydro Restores Power to 2,500 Customers

Kingston Hydro confirms it has restored power to approximately 2,500 customers following a fault on a customer’s high-voltage cable that tripped a breaker and locked out a main 44,000 volt feed that supplies three of Kingston Hydro’s substations.

The tripped breaker locked out the 44,000 volt feed that carries electricity from the Gardiners Road Transmission Station to 2,500 Kingston Hydro customers. The outage affected customers in the area bounded by Country Club Drive east to William Street, and King Street north to Bath Road and Johnson Street, including St. Lawrence College and Kingston Penitentiary. Three substations that were affected were on Center Street, Mary Street and Johnson Street at Sir John A. Macdonald Boulevard.

The outage occurred at 8:58 PM on May 15. Kingston Hydro crews responded and restored power by 10:29 PM. The customer who experienced the cable fault remains without power until approximately 3:30 PM today.

Kingston Hydro customers in central or east areas of Kingston are asked to report power outages by calling the 24-hour emergency line at 613-546-1181 and first listening to the list of known power outages. Know what to do in a power outage, get more information on our emergency power outage page.
