Kingston Hydro Restores Power to 1,200 Customers

On Friday July 19, 2013, high winds caused several outages affecting approximately 1,200 customers in the Kingston Hydro electricity distribution area. The outages were primarily due to downed trees or tree limbs.

Crews restored power to the majority of customers within approximately four hours. All storm damage was repaired by 3:15 a.m. Saturday morning. Due to the risk presented by lightning, crews do not work on overhead lines during an active lightning storm. This extended the duration of some of the outages.

We’d also like to thank the crews for Kingston Hydro who responded to a Hydro One call for assistance in the surrounding area.

Customers are reminded of the following:

  • Report power outages and downed tree limbs by calling 613-546-1181. Social media are not monitored for outage reports.
  • While our utility operators provide regular updates on Twitter and Facebook, social media conversations are not monitored outside of business hours.
  • Utilities Kingston services electricity customers in the Kingston Hydro distribution area. Residents in the west and east areas of the city are asked to contact Hydro One to report power outages.
  • Help prevent power outages: plant the right tree in the right place.
