By the time natural gas gets to your stove, furnace or other appliance, it’s pressure has already been regulated four times, from about 800 psi down to ¼ psi. We receive the gas from Trans Canada at a pressure of about 800 psi ( 5,512 kPa). Through the City Gate Regulating Station in Glenburnie, the pressure is regulated down to 350 psi (2,412 kPa) and piped to the City of Kingston. Here the gas goes through seven different district regulating stations, which are placed throughout the City, and is regulated down to 60 psi (414 kPa). It is regulated again at your house meter, down to ¼ psi (1.73 kPa). The gas is then sent through the meter, which accurately measures the amount of gas flowing through it, and to your appliance, which finally regulates the gas one last time down to the pressure it requires.
