Did you know that Utilities Kingston is a business corporation, incorporated under the Ontario Business Corporations Act (2000)? The company is owned by 1425447 Ontario Limited, which is in turn wholly-owned by the City of Kingston. The City also owns Kingston Hydro Corporation, which owns the electricity assets in City Central, Canadian Forces Base Kingston, and Barriefield.

This structure helps us meet the intent of the Energy Competition Act (1998) and maintain the cost savings and customer service advantages realized through the unique multi-utility structure in Kingston. Each utility operated and maintained by Utilities Kingston – water, wastewater, natural gas, electricity and fibre – is funded by utility rates, not municipal taxes.
