Friday, April 28 is the National Day of Mourning

This day is dedicated to remembering those who have lost their lives, or suffered injury or illness on the job due to a work-related tragedy. We also take time to recognize the many families and friends who have been deeply affected by these tragedies.

On average:

  • Every five minutes, eight Canadian workers are injured, diagnosed with illness, or die as a result of their work.
  • Nearly three Canadian workers die as a result of their work, each day.
  • In 2015, there were 281 work-related deaths in Ontario and 852 work-related deaths in Canada.

While Ontario has the lowest frequency of injuries of any province, we must still do better. Let’s use this day as a reminder of our pledge towards a safe and inclusive workplace, so everyone can go home to their families at the end of the day.
