100 Days of History in the Kingston Community

Utilities Kingston has been a part of the Kingston community for over 150 years, providing reliable utility services and helping to build and maintain this city. We are proud of our history and want to celebrate these years by presenting our ‘100 days of history’ campaign. This campaign is inspired by the 100 Happy Days project, which encourages social media users to take a moment and post a photo of something that makes them happy.

Over the next 100 days we will showcase our history in pictures on Twitter and encourage the community to get in on the action by following @utilitieskngstn and the #100HappyYears hashtag. Please follow along and share!

Our roots in the community run deep. We’ve been providing utility services in Kingston since 1867. Our employees are proud to help build this community and we thank our customers for putting their trust in us. We pride ourselves on our history and strive to approve upon an already great level of service excellence.

Start date: May 25, 2015

Location: On Twitter! Follow @utilitieskngston to relieve our #100HappyYears in the Kingston community.

History: Did you know, over the years our name and corporate structure have changed, but one thing has remained constant: we are the City-owned utility company accountable to the City of Kingston, City Council, and the residents of the local community.

Prior to amalgamation on January 1, 1998, the utility services were provided by several different groups:

  • water and wastewater by the former townships
  • wastewater services by the former City government
  • water, natural gas, and electricity services in the former City by the Public Utilities Commission (PUC)

As a result of amalgamation, all of these services were brought together under one organization, now known as Utilities Kingston. Learn more at About Utilities Kingston.
