Cataraqui Bay Wastewater Treatment Plant Implementation of Dechlorination System

Cataraqui Bay Wastewater Treatment Plant Implementation of Dechlorination System

Utilities Kingston intends to implement a dechlorination system at the Cataraqui Bay Wastewater Treatment Plant. Since a project of this nature is considered a pre-approved project under Schedule A+ of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Planning Process, it can proceed directly to implementation. However, the public is being notified of this project prior to its implementation through this notice. The proposed dechlorination system will consist of a chemical storage tank, metering pumps, chlorine analyzer, and associated control and electrical equipment and piping. The equipment is to be housed in existing structures. Residual chlorine in the plant effluent will be removed using a sodium bisulfite solution. An amendment to the plant’s Certificate of Approval will be required for this change prior to implementation. The intent is to complete this project by no later than December 31, 2010 depending on consultation with Environment Canada and the Ontario Ministry of the Environment Should you have any questions regarding this project or if you would like additional information, please contact one of the people listed below:
