Generally, your rain barrel will be delivered four-to-six weeks after the time you order it. Due to popular demand, and a higher than usual number of orders, delivery could take a little longer. We will do our best to deliver rain barrels as quickly as possible, and apologize for any delay.

No delivery appointment is required, and you do not need to be home to receive your rain barrel.

Included is the barrel itself, a top filter basket, overflow outlet, overflow hose and spigot assembly.

Rain barrels cannot be recycled. The Kingston Area Recycling Center will not take rain barrels and rain barrels will not be picked up as trash or curbside recycling. These items will need to be taken to a transfer station in the City and disposal fees will apply.

To divert waste from landfills, our rain barrels were repurposed from durable plastic barrels that were once used to store and ship food across the world. This would likely be the cause of any scratches or dents you see.

The fine mesh of the mosquito filter prevents mosquitoes from breeding in standing water. It can be removed, and your eavestrough downspout can be connected directly to the rain barrel opening. Alternatively, you can use a flexible downspout connector found at RainBarrel.ca.

There are three easy steps to winterize your rain barrel.

1. Drain the water to prevent freezing.
2. Turn the rain barrel upside down and, if possible, store in a shed or other shelter.
3. Reconnect your downspout so water drains safely away from your foundation.

We recommend winterizing your rain barrel by draining it and turning it upside down, so water does not accumulate and freeze.

Yes. The top is made with a built-in child-proof and pest-proof plastic lid and screen.

Rain barrels cannot be exchanged. However, Orbis, the manufacturer of barrels purchased prior to 2022 may provide coverage under their warranty; please contact them at Enviro@OrbisCorporation.com.

Yes. You can purchase up to a maximum of two rain barrels per billing account, per year. The utility account must be in good standing. 

The colour of the barrel is black. It is a repurposed food-grade barrel. The barrels were previously used to store olives and vegetables.

Rain barrels are approximately 23 inches wide and 38 inches tall. They hold 220 litres/55 gallons of water.

Delivery is available to the service address on the account. Please note any special drop-off notes at the time of ordering your barrel.

The price reflects the cost Utilities Kingston pays to provide the rain barrels. We do not profit from the program. We started selling rain barrels to our customers to help promote water conservation and sustainable gardening practices. If we were to offer the rain barrels at a reduced rate, then we would be asking the utility rate payer to subsidize the program.

This program is only available to residents of the municipality of Kingston, who receive a utility bill from Utilities Kingston. Rain barrels are available at numerous retail outlets separate from this program.
