Improving Community Infrastructure

Our streetlight and traffic signal technicians build and upgrade traffic signal intersections, install street light poles, and quickly respond to traffic signal problems and street light outages. We strive to make this infrastructure as reliable and efficient as possible.

Accomplishments in 2021 included the following:

  • Built and commissioned four pedestrian crossings at Bayridge Drive and Bayridge Park, Montreal Street and Maccauley Street, Taylor Kidd Boulevard and Pembridge Crescent, and Weller Avenue and Wiley Street.
  • Installed four driver feedback signs at Bayridge Drive and Bayridge Park, Montreal Street and Maccauley Street, Taylor Kidd Boulevard and Pembridge Crescent, and Weller Avenue and Wiley Street.
  • Upgraded traffic signal detection on Gardiners Road, from Norris Court to Fortune Crescent. This work included 20 new detection cameras and traffic pole upgrades.
  • Replaced 115 uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) batteries at critical intersections. In the event of a power outage, the signals draw automatically from the UPS, allowing for safe and efficient traffic flow.
Our crews maintain 10,000 streetlights and traffic signals at 200 intersections, for the City of Kingston.
