Planet vs. Plastics on Earth Day 2024

Join us to honour and celebrate our remarkable planet on this extraordinary day! Every year on Earth Day, we are reminded of the importance of environmental conservation and sustainability, encouraging us to come together and take action for a healthier planet and a brighter future.

EarthDay.org, the leading global coordinator of Earth Day activities and a major mobilizer of environmental initiatives worldwide, has revealed this year's theme: "Planet vs. Plastics."

They are committed to ending plastics for human and planetary health and demanding a 60% reduction in the production of ALL plastics by 2040. To achieve this goal, they are promoting and advocating for:

  • Widespread awareness of the damage done by plastic to humans, animals, and biodiversity's health

  • Rapidly phasing out all single-use plastics by 2030

  • Demanding policies ending fast fashion

  • Investing in innovative technologies and materials to build a plastic-free world

This year, plastic is personal

Join us in supporting this campaign as we build a plastic-free planet for generations to come! Check the local events happening in your city and learn how you can do your part.

At Utilities Kingston, we're taking a stand against plastic pollution!

We understand the impact of plastic pollution on our planet's health and are committed to contributing to its reduction by promoting sustainable practices and encouraging eco-friendly alternatives. From upcycled rain barrels to water buggy bookings and our new Sustainability and Climate Action branch, we’re working to reduce our impact and better serve our communities.

What’s a water buggyThis mobile unit provides safe, reliable drinking water at events in Kingston during the summer months. Each refill station on the buggy helps divert thousands of single-use plastic water bottles from landfills every year. It's a simple yet impactful way to reduce plastic waste and promote the use of safe, sustainable drinking water.

We encourage everyone to bring a refillable bottle to events so you can enjoy free, safe and reliable tap water. Together, we can make a difference!

Let's unite in our efforts to protect the Earth today and for generations to come. Together, we can make a meaningful impact and create a more sustainable world.
