New Highway 15 water main will help meet demand and ensure fire protection

New Highway 15 water main will help meet demand and ensure fire protection

A new trunk water main on Highway 15  will ensure the continued reliability of water services, meeting demand and ensuring fire protection, as development increases in the area. We are committed to supporting the growth and development of our community.

Utilities Kingston has awarded the $3.73 million contract to install the 500 mm trunk water main, to Taggart Construction. The project will begin in June 2021 and continue until the end of the year.

The work was identified in the 2015 water master plan and involves installing a new water main on the west side of Highway 15, from Barriefield Village to north of Grenadier Drive. This new trunk main will transmit water from the James Street water booster station to the elevated water storage tower located on Innovation Drive. It will move higher volumes of water into this facility. The appropriate water pressures will be maintained, as crews install pressure reducing valves and take other measures.

Plan for traffic delays and water outages

To help facilitate this work, residents in the area can expect water outages. To help reduce the impact on customers, our contractor will communicate with impacted residents directly. Commuters should also expect significant traffic delays on Highway 15, due to required lane reductions. Follow @utilitieskngstn on Twitter for traffic updates.
